Assoc. Prof. Ivan Kostov graduated from Sofia Medical University in 1997. He is specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at University Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital "Maichin dom". He has a Master's degree in Health Management since 2005.

Acquired doctorate in medicine in 2010 in the field of social medicine and organization of health and pharmacy with a dissertation entitled "Framework of national E-health model in Bulgaria". In 2014 he became Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov ", Varna.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kostov has a rich postgraduate qualification in: ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology, colposcopy, gynecological endocrinology, operational gynecology,pediatric and adolescent gynecology,gynecological laparoscopy,robotic surgery in gunecology using Da Vinci Robot , and many other specializations.

He specializes in gynecological surgery in Germany, surgical obstetrics in Israel, gynecological laparoscopy in Germany and France, endoscopic surgery in France, urological gynecology in Slovenia, robotic surgery in gynecology in Italy and Turkey, and e-government in health care in the US.

His career starts as a "Maichin dom" as a obstetrician and gynecologist and the surgical gynecology clinic of "Pirogov" as a medical specialist.

In 2006-2008 he became Head of Department of General and Oncology Gynecology Clinic at the Military Medical Academy. In 2008, he was appointed Executive Director of Second municipal Hospital for obstetrics and gynecology Sheinovo. He served until 2011 and then became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the same hospital for the period 2011-2012.

 Executive Director of First Hospital "St. Sofia" is from 2012 to April 2017.

 Since April 2017 he has served as Executive Director of the University Maternity Hospital "Maichin Dom" - Sofia.

Since 2014, he has been a member of the Expert Council of the State Fund for Assisted Reproduction at the Health Ministry.

Assoc. Prof. Ivan Kostov, PhD, is also chairman of the E-health Foundation Bulgaria in the period 2004 - 2013, as well as an active member of the European Association for Telemedicine and E-health in Brussels

He was an adviser to the Minister of Health in the years 2004 - 2008, 2010 - 2012, adviser to the National Assembly Health Committee (2008 - 2010).

He speaks: Bulgarian, English and Russian.
